Amateur astronomers can connect to astronomy in various ways. Some enjoy direct observation (looking live through telescopes), some eagerly pursue capturing camera images to show what is in the night sky (photos can show more detail than what the eye can see through a telescope), and others might be motivated by scientific research about astrophysics and cosmology. Many members are interested in all these fields of discipline, or are at least supportive of fellow members who pursue these various interests.
